On the sidelines of the Organization of American States General Assembly, in Medellin, Colombia, on June 26th, Senior Advisor to the State Department's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Giovanni Snidle highlighted the United States' support to global effort helping Colombia clear landmines.
"The United States recognizes that the enduring presence of these explosive remnants of war complicates the recovery process for both combatants and communities ... Colombia can never truly be at peace while this legacy persists and poses a threat to the local populace." - Giovanni Snidle
Senior Advisor Snidle reiterated the United States commitment to supporting Colombia’s mine action efforts. The State Department's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Office of Foreign Assistance Resources, and the U.S. Embassy in Colombia have been key partners in the effort to eliminate the threat of unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants of war in Colombia.
"I look forward to the progress we will make this year ridding this country of explosive remnants of war," Senior Advisor Snidle said.
